“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)
February 8 – Give to Help Others
Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Read Romans 12:1-2 out loud. It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.
"Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality." Romans 12:13
Apply God’s Word to your life.
This week, we are going to be making commitments, laying plans for action, and taking action.
What resources has God given you to share with people in need? We all make different salaries. God wants us to give based on what we make, not on what others are giving.
What giving commitment are you planning to make this weekend? Have you talked to God about it?
What changes or sacrifices will you make each week that will enable you to do this?
The Finance Class is coming up in February at Ontario and Rialto in March. It can help you write a budget and develop a plan to get out of debt.
Hospitality is the friendly and generous reception of guests, visitors, or strangers. We all have the opportunity to practice hospitality, every day.
How friendly and generous were you with your family this week? With the people who passed you this weekend at church? With your neighbors? With strangers you met? Pray that no matter what has transpired between you and another person, you will give them a friendly reception, relying on God’s love to flow through you, forgiving whatever the wrong against you.
Father, thank You for sending Jesus so I could learn what it means to love other people. I confess that I still can be so selfish, protecting my time, my possessions, and my money. Help me continue to learn to give all that I have to You. I want to honor You with the first of everything I have. Help me to practice hospitality every day, all day. Please convict me with Your Word and Your Spirit when I am unkind or selfish. I want to be transformed so people will see Jesus in me. Amen.
