“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)
February 2 – Give to Help Others
Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Read Romans 12:1-2 out loud. It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" 1 John 3:16-17
Apply God’s Word to your life.
Make a list of the different ways people have been helped through the ministries of Sunrise.
In what ways are you helping people through the ministries of Sunrise?
Ask God to show you how He wants you to sacrifice to help others.
Father, thanks for sending Jesus, Your only Son, to lay down His life for me. Show me daily how I can lay down my life for others. Help me to do what You have put on my heart. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
"Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will." 2 Corinthians 8:2-5
