Give Thanks

Keith Knight

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!  His faithful love endures forever.  Give thanks to the God of gods.  His faithful love endures forever.  ive thanks to the Lord of lords.  His faithful love endures forever.  Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles.  His faithful love endures forever."  Psalm 136:1-4

What is your favorite holiday to celebrate and why?

The answer for me is very simple.  Of all the holidays we celebrate, Thanksgiving is my favorite hands down.  I love gathering with family and friends.  I enjoy the fellowship and the food.  I enjoy looking back on family traditions, watching some football, playing a board game, going to the movies and creating new fond memories.  I appreciate and value all of these things about Thanksgiving.

But the real reason I love Thanksgiving is because it’s a reflection of our ATTITUDE and the true condition of our heart!  I trust your attitude is one of gratefulness.  I love that Thanksgiving is a holiday that can’t be commercialized by our culture or capitalized on for profit because the true essence of the holiday is founded on our ATTITUDE!

I encourage you to read through all of Psalm 136 and be mindful of a repeated phrase.  The first part of each verse reminds us of a reason to be grateful to God while the second part of the verse declares “His faithful love endures forever.”  This constant phrase and repetition helps us to remember an important truth and promise from God Word.  The never ending story of God’s love deserves our utmost praise and thanksgiving because His love never fails.  It helps us to recall and be mindful that God’s character is one of love, grace, mercy, kindness and faithfulness.  And these attributes of God remain steadfast and flow abundantly into our lives forever and ever!

God pairs His works with His motivation and the overall message that we need to KNOW is that we have an awesome God who loves us unconditionally and He is always working on our behalf.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving this year, I encourage you, your family, and your friends to reflect and answer the following questions:

1. What are you thankful for this year?

2. Why are you thankful this year?

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  His faithful love endures forever.
