"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." I Corinthians 3:11
Recently, the New York Times featured an important message to every homeowner: maybe your house stands on a weak foundation. The report is quite alarming. It states, “Experts estimate the cost to homeowners, to stabilize or shore up foundations, is around $4 billion annually in the United States, up from $3 billion 10 years ago”.
Just like the housing industry, a weak foundation can cause havoc to one's life. Not only can it be an enormous financial burden, but the cost can damage your spiritual rewards.
Looking back over my life, I cannot count all of the blessings God has bestowed on me. His grace and mercy have been amazing. I did not deserve His grace and I surely wasn’t worthy of His mercy. God laid the foundation of my salvation with the sacrificial death of His Son Jesus. I now understand that many of the problems that I faced in the past were due to me building on a foundation other than the one Jesus so excruciatingly laid for the church.
I Corinthians 3:12-13 says, "If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work."
God wants us to build every area of our lives on the foundation of Christ Jesus. He wants us to be aware of human philosophy that when often tried only equal to wood, hay or straw...if we build with gold, silver and costly stones, that they will stand the test of fire.
Our building material, gold, silver and costly stone, do not come from this world, but from the Word of God. To obtain this:
1. Communicate daily with God in prayer.
2. Attend church and Bible studies.
3. Follow God’s Word.
