Fill Up With the Holy Spirit!
"Do not get drunk on wine… instead be filled with the Spirit." Ephesians 5:18
Data from the Centers for Disease Control states that we are a pill popping, drug addicted, alcohol fueled nation that is living a significant portion of our lives in a mind bending state of consciousness.
Twenty-eight percent of people between the ages of 18 and 24 binge-drink five times a month downing seven drinks in one sitting. The statistics aren’t much more promising for the other age groups surveyed. In real numbers, this means that about 90 million Americans are spending one full day every week of their lives completely out of touch with the real world.
Instead of fighting through personal crisis and hardship, many choose to drink away their problems. Instead of being present for their children, many are living weekly in an alcohol fueled blurry reality. The scripture says that instead of filling our lives with “spirits” we should fill our lives with the Holy Spirit.
If you were racing in NASCAR, you wouldn’t put water in the gas tank of your race car, you’d put in racing fuel. And for a Christian, to most effectively navigate life’s race, you wouldn’t fill your life with mood altering spirits, you’d fill up with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the racing fuel for life. I encourage you today to evict sin and invite the Holy Spirit to fill your life. Take a few minutes this morning and get fueled up!
