Feed the Spirit
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
When I read these verses, I can't help but feel that I come up short each time I read them. Have you ever felt that way? I thought about the reasons why I come up short in so many areas and it confounded me. Then the Lord was gracious enough to help me, through the Spirit, to understand what I was doing wrong.
I come up short because I attempt to bear fruit through the works of the flesh. Some of us may not even realize that we are doing this. Simply put, I need the realize that the old nature cannot produce fruit. Yet we attempt to follow Christ with our old self without even realizing it. It kind of reminds me of watching a dog chase its tail. It might be a little comical at first, but if the dog continues chasing it, then it becomes a sad event to watch.
How do we chase our tails? Take an account of your day, do you feed the Spirit or the flesh? Whatever you feed the most will dictate how you live your life. In order to claim the promises of God, the Spirit of God must be the governing force in your life. We need to be aware at all times, who is in control of our lives.
I want us to develop a habit of asking each day, "Who did I feed today?" This simple question will help us to live a life that bears much fruit.
"Where the Spirit of the Lord Is"
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is peace
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is love
There is comfort in life's darkest hour
There is help and power
In the Spirit, in the Spirit of the Lord
