"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." colossians 2:6-7
Giant buildings, freeway interchanges and other concrete construction are imposing structures. However, within each of these structures are unseen steel reinforcement rods that provide the strength and sturdiness. Without this internal network, concrete can easily crumble and collapse when pressured or stressed from external conditions.
In the same way and often unseen, routine righteous practices and habits reinforce faith in Jesus Christ. It begins by being faithful in the small things – repaying genuine debts, keeping promises to our children, getting to work on time.
Genuine faith starts small and builds an inner foundation for the more pressing circumstances we encounter while living in a sinful world and dealing with temptations to sin. Godly practices and habits are nurtured and strengthened in our private times of communion with God and will provide an underlying link to expectant faith.
Loving God is yet another internal bar of genuine faith. If we obey God only out of a sense of responsibility, we will do well. But if we obey Him because we love Him sincerely and long to please Him, our faith will became visible from internal passion that reinforces our faith.
Finally, regular times of prayer are the rods of a sturdy faith. Confession, repentance, worship and petition, undergird a meaningful life of faith. May God bless you as you build your faith each day by exercising the internal disciplines that will strengthen trust, determination and consistency in your walk with God.
