“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)
January 30 – Expect Battle
Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Read Romans 12:1-2 out loud. It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.
"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:11-12
As we seek to grow in our giving and allow God to transform our lives, we will encounter spiritual battle. Satan does not want God’s people transformed or God’s kingdom to grow. Continue to catch the thoughts that pop into your mind that don’t line up with God’s Word. Use God’s Word to renew your thinking about giving.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
Identify the thoughts from your heart, from the world, or from Satan that are trying to influence you to act contrary to God’s Word. Be specific. As you identify a thought, find a Scripture to replace it with.
Father, thank You for transforming my life. As I struggle to do what pleases You, help me to fight the spiritual battles. Use Your Word and Your Spirit to show me my wrong thinking. Bless me as I seek to honor You with all I am and all I have. Amen.
