Environmenal Pitfall

Cliff Ellison

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

We must resist the pressure to conform to an ungodly environment.

As believers, we live in this world, but should not be of this world. It’s really easy to fall into an environmental pitfall. Our social environment can shape our lives without us being aware. It can be our love of sports, participation in social clubs or the people we enjoy being around even though they disengage themselves from God.

Lot, the cousin of Abraham, was a Godly man, but after moving his family to Sodom he became oblivious to the people around him.

Lot had lived so long and so content among ungodly people that he was no longer a believable witness for God. His environment shaped him rather than him shaping his environment. He had no creditability or influence among the people he lived among. How are you seen among the people who know you? Are you just blending in with the crowd? Or are you known as a witness for God?

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

It is imperative as ambassadors of God that we do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world”, it must be firmly established in our minds that worldly behavior is off limits. When is the last time you laughed or told an off colored joke?

What do you do when a store clerk gives you too much change? Do you gossip or are you quick to laugh at someone's mishaps?

Living for Jesus

Living for Jesus, a life that is true
Striving to please Him in all that I do
Yielding allegiance, glad hearted and free
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

Living for Jesus Who died in my place
Bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace
Such love constrains me to answer His call
Follow His leading and give Him my all

O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone
