Do They See Jesus in Me?
"Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God." Ephesians 5:1-2 (NLT)
How important is my example to this world? Does it really matter if I lead another person to Jesus Christ? Is it possible that God has it all worked out and I am just a tool with no real purpose? If I have no other purpose in this lifetime, it is clear from this passage that my life should be an example of the awesome riches of His grace and love that points others to Jesus Christ. God’s love for me demands no less in return. So I wonder, “If I were the only Christian you met, would you want to be saved? Does my life make you want to know more about what fuels my me? If I am the only one who ever tells you about Jesus, will my life line up enough to add credibility to the love found only at the Cross of Jesus?"
As we hosted our recent Fall Fest for our community, I was made aware of this very area of my life as I sat and conversed with the many neighbors and friends that visited us throughout the event. As I was wearing an orange t-shirt that designated me as someone who anyone could come to and get information from regarding Sunrise Church and/or spiritual inquisitions, I knew that I needed to be ready so they would “see Jesus in me.” I wanted to be an example of His grace and love that might cause them to ask me questions. With the thousands that were in attendance, I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the life of at least 1 child who was so excited to be here, or 1 mom or dad who was bringing their children to a event that didn’t cost them, as finances were so limited at home, or a grandma who was looking for things for the grandchild she was now raising.
Jesus Christ has so enriched my life that it is very important for me to do whatever I can to see that that one other person that I come in contact with will “see Jesus in me!”
My question is, do people see Jesus in you? As you drive down the congested freeway, in the grocery line when they have only opened 1 checkout stand, at the sports field while you are watching your child play, ask yourself that question. If not, what are you challenged to do to make that happen in your life? I know that I want people to see Jesus in me!
