"The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display His marvelous craftsmanship." Psalm 19:1
Recently my wife asked me if I liked an art portrait that strikingly caught her attention. The art portrait was full of vivid color and beautifully designed. The framework of the art piece was equally impressive and I was immediately drawn to its stunning attention to detail. The portrait is taken off a coastal beach with grains of sand, crystal blue water, a single enormous boulder rock directly off the shoreline and a cloud filled sky with the sun bursting through it. Needless to say, I concurred with her opinion and this work of art brings me much peace and solace.
As I reflect on this portrait and the scripture reference of Psalm 19:1, the word "Craftsmanship" seems to resurface in my mind. "Craftsmanship" in our culture today seems like a long lost art form. People seem to get by and accept mediocre at best, regardless of the trade or profession. People seem to settle for mediocre, even in their marriage and in other relationships. But this doesn't work in God's economy. His creation, "His Craftsmanship" is unique and superior; it's breathtaking to say the least!! We are truly blessed to be surrounded by incredible and unbelievable displays of God's "Craftsmanship" on a daily basis."
In Psalm 19:1-6, David meditates on God's creation and on how God reveals Himself and His greatness through nature. How the heavens give extraordinary evidence of His existence, His power and His presence in our lives. How about you? Are you running so fast through life that you miss seeing God through His creation? I challenge you today to slow down at the peace you're going and observe God's handiwork in creation and through nature. One writer puts it this way, "A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist."
One last thought to consider...The God who created the entire universe and all of its splendor and magnificent beauty also created you. And out of ALL creation, you and I were created in the image of God. We are reflections of God's glory and we have the ability to reflect His character. Isn't God's love for us incredible?
Give praise and thanksgiving to God for being the master artistic craftsman!!
