Clothe Yourselves with Humility

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)

January 18 – Clothe Yourselves with Humility

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

Read Romans 12:1-2 out loud.  It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.

"All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."  1 Peter 5:5b-6

Humility is being rightly related to God and others.  We are not the center of the universe.  God is!  He deserves the honor and glory, not us.  We don’t need to be proud to need humility, some people use the problems, illnesses, and woes as a way of being the center of attention.  We are rightly related to people when we put their needs above our own, when we love them with God’s unconditional love.

Apply God’s Word to your life.

When do you seek to be the center of attention – at work, at parties, with what you know, by your complaining, etc.?  Why?

Take a moment to surrender once again to God.  Ask Him to be the center of your life today.

Rather than seeking to get your own needs met, whom can you love today with God’s love?

Father, I praise You. Forgive me for all the times I try to be the center of attention and think that everything I need and want is most important.  Help me learn to live dependent on You, wanting Your will, acknowledging You throughout my day.  Help me be more concerned about the interests of those you have put in my life.  Amen.
