"Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God who is our salvation."  Psalm 68:19

Burdens, everyone has them. Nobody can escape them. A burden is a load or weight that we carry. A burden is a problem, an affliction, trouble, a yoke, and a liability that causes us to worry and have undue stress. Burdens can drain us physically, emotionally and even spiritually. I’m sure each of you reading this devotion can relate.

What burden are you currently experiencing right now?
What burden is causing you to worry and feel unrest?

The Bible says, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God who is our salvation.” God never intended us to bear our burdens, but rather cast our cares upon Him. But burdens and worry can overwhelm us. They are a hard emotion to suppress. Burdens can have a tight grip on us during times of crisis. . Burdens can cripple us. Burdens can choke us. Burdens can even strangle us. And that’s why we need Jesus. He is our burden bearer.

Dr. Charles Mayo of the famed Mayo Clinic said that “worry affects the circulation, the heart, the glands and the whole nervous system. I have never met a man or known a man to die of overwork, but I have known a lot who die from worry.”

So, my question for you is this…Has worry ever made your situation or problems get any better?
I think we know the answer. It is very unlikely. So where do we turn for help?

God gives us an instruction manual, the Bible, to help us when the burdens or life are heavy and the load of worry seems unbearable. We have the ability to channel burdens and the emotion that it generates… worry. The Bible says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4: 6-7). Translated, this literally means that God’s peace will protect our hearts and stand guard against the invasion of worry and fear when the burdens are heavy.

I want to encourage you to go before the throne of God in prayer right now with the burden you’re trying to carry, with the burden that is causing you to worry. Pray this to the Lord:

Lord, I cast this burden(s) on You. Your Word says for me to cast all my care(s) upon You Lord, for You care for me. You also tell me that You will never give me more than I can handle and I trust that. So in the best way I know how, I’m casting my cares on You Lord. I’m casting my problems on You Lord. Instead of panicking, I will wait upon You Lord. Instead of worrying, I will pray to You Lord. So here it is, I surrender and look to You Lord. In Jesus Holy name, Amen.
