Aurora Borealis

Debbi Goolsby

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1

I had the privilege of visiting Alaska last week to see the Aurora Borealis.  You’re saying, “What is that?”  It’s the Northern Lights.  “A natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere.”  That is how Wikipedia explains it.  But I have a better explanation: God’s mighty artistic hands at work!

aurora borealisAs I gazed up into a sky dotted with brilliant stars (more than one can count), I was having a time of celebration of praise to our God who places those stars in the sky many years ago.

“God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.  He also made the stars.  He set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth”  Genesis 1:16-17

Methodically dancing through the sky with colors of blue, green, yellow, pink & purple,  I could see God as the orchestra leader with his baton directing the whole ensemble.   I just sat there in the zero degree temperature enjoying the best performance ever.

I go back to, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  You have to believe those first few verses of His Word to believe anything else written after that.  He arranged the stars and planets with such imagination in placing them where they are.

There are days when I struggle to spend time with God because I get too busy and my “self” takes more priority than I care to admit.  He reminded me in that time of “awe” of what a great God we have and how awesome He is.  I had the best quiet time with the Lord that night as he reminded me of how much He loves me, enough to send his Son to this earth to take my place and give me eternal life.

“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  John 10:10

So, do you believe?  Do you believe that the God who placed the stars in the sky and made those lights dance, can give you “life, and have it to the full”?   I hope you do!  But if there is ever a doubt, just ask me!

My Redeemer Lives

Who taught the sun where to stand in the morning
Who told the ocean you an only come this far?
Who showed the moon where to hide 'til evening
Whose words alone can catch a falling star?

Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
All of creation testify
This life within me cries
I know my Redeemer lives

The very same God that spins things in orbit
He runs to the weary, the worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I'm broken
They conquered death to bring me victory

Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry
I know my Redeemer, He lives
