Are You Prepared for Today?

Cliff Ellison

"Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed."  I Peter 1:13

I once moved into an office and on the wall behind the desk where I was to sit, hung a plaque that read, "There are people who wake up in the morning ready to go to work knowing what's going to happen.  Others wake up wanting to know what's happening, and there are some who wake up and ask what happened?"

As Christians, we realize that no one knows the extent of what is going to happen from day-to-day.  Proverbs 27:1 tells us this, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."  So we must be prepared for action.  Our minds must be spiritually sober and we must set our hope on the grace given us by our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.  A sober minded Christian is one who has self-control, clarity of mind, and moral decisiveness.  Preparation and the Holy Spirit are needed to face our daily obligations.  II Timothy 2:15 says, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."  We need to set aside time to study and know the Word of God.  Knowing God's Word will give us a godly purpose for the day.  Spiritually, preparation is part of wholehearted obedience.

When the time came for me to move out of that office, I left the plaque on the wall for the person replacing me.

What type of person are you?  The person who wakes up and is prepared for what the day may bring, or the one who struggles to find out what direction to take, or the person who wakes up lost and confused wondering what happened?

I Don't Know About Tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day

I don't borrow from its sunshine, for its skies may turn to gray

I don't worry o'er the future, for I know what Jesus said

And today I'll walk beside Him, for He knows what is ahead

Chorus

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand

But I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand
