An Angelic Host

Mitch Cariaga

"Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels..."  Luke 16:22

Recently, I was on a trip to Shanghai.  The departure from Los Angeles was delayed by 8 hours.  This meant that I would have to find another flight to Shanghai because I'd miss my regular connection in Beijing.  I was stressed because I had a lot of extra luggage that I was planning on leaving in a storage area so that I could travel lighter to Shanghai.  I also needed to refresh the SIM card on my China phone so that I could call my contact along with making arrangements for another flight.  All of this had to be done quickly and in a foreign country where my Chinese language is non-existent and their English is very broken.

When I got off the plan in Beijing, a young Chinese woman was standing there holding a sign with my name printed in large letters.  Her name was Wang Shi.  She took my carry-on luggage from my hand and told me that she was going to assist me.  Her English was perfect!  Suddenly, my stress was over.  She efficiently moved me through customs, helped me store my luggage, added minutes to my SIM card, took me to my boarding gate for Shanghai, and then handed me a new boarding pass.  As she was leaving, I thanked her.  She gave a little bow and said, "It's my job!"

The Bible tells us that on the day that God calls us heavenward, we are given a heavenly host, an angelic escort to guide us to our new home.  I'm sure that many of these angels are the same ones who held a party in our behalf when we received Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord (Luke 15:7).

So, relax.  God has taken care of all of our heavenly travel arrangements; and He's given us an angelic guide to take care of all of the details.  It's their job....That's service!
