Acknowledge God as God

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)

January 1 - Acknowledge God as God

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.

A new year is a great time for a new start.  As we begin our journey of transformation, let’s begin by giving God His proper place in our lives.

"Worship the Lord your God and serve him only."  Luke 4:8

Although we know that God should come first, unfortunately for most of us it’s a daily struggle.  Sometimes we don’t want His purposes or His ways.  Other times, we just get busy and before we know it, we are calling the shots instead of Him.  That’s why we need this journey of transformation.

The great news is that while changing our lives is difficult, it is not too hard for God.  Jeremiah 32:17 reminds us, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Apply God’s Word to your life.

What competes with God to be first in your life?

When in your day do you get busy and forget about God?

Take a moment and give God first place in your life through prayer.

Father, You alone are God.  I confess that even though I say You are my God, the way I live shows that often You are not.  I get busy and distracted and forget to put You first.  As I begin this journey, take Your rightful place in my life.  Guide me on this journey because I am in need of transformation.  May my life bring glory to You.  Amen.
