A Pawn for God
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
The definition of a pawn - "Somebody or something that is being used for the advantage of another person."
There was a time in my life that due to the medical bills that my insurance did not cover, I was in extreme debt and had to work many hours of overtime to pay my bills. One very cold winter night, I was working as a police officer on the midnight to 8:00 a.m shift. At about 3:00 a.m., I was driving down the street when I saw what looked like a $20.00 bill floating in my headlights. I stopped; it was. I looked around and found 3 more $20 bills. Eighty dollars, I could feed my family for another week! "Praise God", I thought.
Then I saw a drivers license lying by the storm drain. Immediately, the urge came to put my foot on it and to slide it down the drain. As I looked at the license, I saw that it belonged to a young lady who resided in a low income area of town. I resisted the temptation and drove to the address. After knocking, a lady opened the door and asked, "Did you find my wallet?" She then said, "My baby is sick. I took her with me to get medicine and left my wallet on the roof when I put her in the car seat and then drove off. I'm a Christian and have been praying that someone would bring it to me." After hearing these words, I then realized that God had put me in that place to be a blessing to someone.
As we go through our day-to-day living, we should keep this passage in mind. God has prepared us to do good works and will provide us the opportunity, sometimes when we least expect it.
