A Good Harvest
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
It’s Thanksgiving and I have been thinking about what I am thankful for and what “harvest” I am looking for.
When you plant seeds of faith, a beautiful harvest comes in time. You may not always get to see the results of the seeds you are planting now, but we must not give up. If you are teaching little children the very simple truths that God loves me, God made me, and Jesus wants to be my friend, what you are doing is planting the very simple truths (seeds) that they can understand. Every child wants to know that someone loves them.
There are times when we grow really tired of telling the same story over and over again to children (and adults sometimes, too), but we must not stop teaching from God’s word and showing others who God is and how much He loves us. We plant the seeds and then pray for a harvest. That harvest may not come for a long time, and sometimes it may not even come in our life time, but what we must remember is that it is not our lifetime that make a difference, it is the lifetime of the person we planted that seed in.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray continually;” and we need to remember to never give up. I have been praying for the salvation of a friend for 30 years and I was recently reminded that I should never give up; to give up is to give up on what God is doing.
Don’t grow weary! Keep praying and watch for the harvest. God is doing great and awesome things that we can be thankful for. In my life, it is the heritage that my folks gave to my sister, brother and I. They did not grow weary of telling us that same story of how much God loved us over and over again when I was small...and for that, I am thankful.
