“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
John 17:20-23 - "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
Jesus is talking to His Father just before He is about to be arrested. How were people to come to believe in Jesus after He was gone (20)?
What does Jesus desire for His children (21)?
What has Jesus given us that the Father gave Him (22)?
For what purpose (keyword: so that) does God desire us to be one with Him and one with each other (23)?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
- What do you need to do today to be one with God?
- What unconfessed sin is preventing that oneness? Repent and receive His forgiveness.
- With whom do you need to reconcile so that you can experience the oneness God desires in the body of Christ?
Father, thank you for loving me. Show me how I might be hindering people from coming to Jesus. For the sake of those who do not yet know You or Your love, help me to love others the way that You have loved me. May the way I live bring You glory. Amen.
