“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read John 15:5-11 - (Jesus speaking) "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full."
How is spiritual fruit produced in our lives (5)?
What do you think it looks like to abide in Jesus?
What happens to our spiritual life when we don’t make abiding in Christ a priority (6)?
What glorifies God (8)?
How has Jesus loved you (9)? In what else are we to abide (9)?
Why does Jesus want us to abide in Him and His love (11)?
Read Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Apply God’s Word to your life:
God has promised us an amazing quality of life if we have the faith to trust Him and abide in Him. Today, the promises for Christians are for the fruit of the Spirit in this life, and Heaven in the next.
- What would the quality of your life be like if you were experiencing the fruit of the Spirit all day long, every day? How would that change the longings in your heart? How would that affect your relationships?
- Will you choose to live for the promise of eternal life in Heaven with God?
- Will you choose to pursue the promise of the fruit of Spirit that comes from abiding in Jesus?
Father, I praise You for Your unfailing love and I am grateful that You desire to produce the fruit of the Spirit in my life. Teach me how to abide in Jesus. Let Your Word speak to my heart each day. Help me to live for the promises in Your Word. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
2 Peter 1:3-8 - "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
