“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Numbers 14:1-4 - "Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
The congregation did not embrace the vision that God had for them, even though they had seen God do miracles and heard repeatedly that God had promised them the Land.
How did the congregation respond to the bad report of the spies (1)?
At whom did they grumble (2)?
What two things did they wish for (2)?
What had they forgotten about Egypt (Exodus 5:15-19)?
What were their fears (3)?
What did the congregation desire to do (4)?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
The congregation had the opportunity to go into the Promised Land. Instead, they chose to believe those who did not trust God. This resulted in exaggerated fears and thinking that the past was better than it was.
- Who are you listening to that may be feeding you ungodly advice?
- What fears do you have that are stopping your progress?
- In what ways have you wished to go back to your old life rather than pursue the promises of God and the challenges He has for you?
- What real obstacles are you facing as you take steps toward your challenge?
Father, I praise You that You are trustworthy. I confess that fear keeps me from pursuing Your will for my life. Help me to face my challenges from a heart of faith like Joshua and Caleb. Help me to replace earthly thinking with truth from Your Word. Amen.

Colossians 3:1-4 - "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."
