“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
This week, we are going to focus on guarding against the mistakes that keep us from living a life of significance. We often fall into the same trap that Israel did, when confronted with the challenge to move forward, the past looks a lot more enticing than it really was.
Numbers 14:1-4 - "Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
The Israelites let their emotions affect their decision-making. Their fear distorted their thinking.
How did their emotions make them think their past wasn’t as bad as it was (2)?
What fears kept them from wanting to move forward (3)?
What decision did these fears cause them to make (4)?
One thing is clear, the Israelites were not focused on God or the things above.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
- When have you avoided taking a step of faith in your walk with God?
- What emotions influenced your decision?
- What truth or promise from God’s Word should you have followed instead of your emotions?
- Where would you be today if you had taken that step?
- What step of faith will you take today?
Father, thank you for all the promises in Your Word. I am grateful that Christ lives in me. Forgive me for all the times that I’ve avoided Your will because I’ve made decisions based on my emotions. Teach me to wholly follow Your Word so that I may bring glory to Your name. Catch me in my wrong thinking and give me the faith and ability to do Your Word. Amen.
