“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Mark 12:28-31 - "And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."
Which commandment in the Bible is the most important? (30)
How does one love God with all their heart? With all their soul (Psalm 119:16)?
With all their mind (Colossians 3:1-2)? With all their strength (Ephesians 6:10)?
What is the second most important commandment (31)?
The Scribe asked Jesus for one commandment. Why do you think Jesus said there were two?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
- Ask God to reveal to you one thing in your life that you love more than Him.
- How does that thing pull you away from God?
- What action do you need to take so that you love God more than that thing?
- Who can hold you accountable for taking that action?
Father, Your Word is full of instructions. Thanks for giving us two commandments that sum up all the rest. Help me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. Give me the courage to deal with those things that take my heart away from You. Let my love for You be shown in the way I love people. Amen.

I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead."
