Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read Revelation 3:1-6
How does Jesus describe Himself in verse 1?
I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Revelation 3:1-2
This church had a problem. They thought they were alive but they were, in fact, spiritually dying and close to dead. They had forgotten the basics of the Christian life, and were no longer allowing the Spirit to guide their lives. Because they were calling the shots in their life instead of God, they looked spiritually dead.
What were they to do to fix the problem (vs.3)?
What will happen to those who don’t wake up (vs.3)?
What does Jesus promise for those who are “alive” (vs. 4-5)?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Evaluate your heart and your life. Are you alive or dead? Are you living the Christ-directed life or self-directed life?
· Repent for letting the life of God in your heart grow cold. Allow the Spirit to once again guide your life.
· Go back to the beginning and relearn the basics of walking with God.
· Start living by faith and taking God at His Word.
Father, I have been deceived. All this time I thought I was fine, the truth is I am near death spiritually. Forgive me for not cultivating my spiritual life. Forgive me for letting sin or other priorities cut me off from Your life and power. Help me to remember what I have learned in Your Word. Help me to take it to heart and put it into practice. I am so grateful that You are waiting to welcome me back. Amen.
