40 Days of Prophecy - January 6, 2016 – Hold to the Truth, Don’t Tolerate Error

Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:

Read Revelation 2:12-17
How does Jesus describe Himself in verse 12?
How does Jesus describe the city in verse 13?
What did Jesus praise the church for in verse 13?

But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. Revelation 2:14

Satan lives in our cities, too! There are people who don’t teach the truth and put stumbling blocks before our people and lead them into sin. We need to hold fast to Christ and the truth of the Word of God and not tolerate error. This means we need to know the Truth and have the courage to lovingly deal with error when it surfaces.

Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Repent of tolerating error and hold fast to God’s truth.
· Where have you overlooked or twisted the Word to justify sin?
· What can you do to strengthen your knowledge of the Word so that you can walk in Truth and identify false and harmful teaching?
· Commit to lovingly correct error with the truth of God’s Word.

Father, I praise You for caring for Your children. I am sorry for tolerating sin and error. I commit to take spiritual growth steps so that I will be grounded in the faith. Help me continue to remain true to You. Amen.

Colossians 2:8-10: "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority."

Acts 17:11: "Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."

1 Timothy 6:3-4: "If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing."
