Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read Revelation 18:1-24
Babylon represents human institutions and man’s accomplishments.
How did the angel describe the impact of Babylon on those around her (vs.3)?
What was to be the fate of Babylon (vs. 8)?
What was the fate of the merchants (vs.14)?
What was the response of the sea merchants to the destruction of Babylon (vs.19)?
What was found in Babylon (vs.24)?
"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." I Timothy 6:10
We don’t know when Jesus is coming, but wouldn’t it be great if we had no regrets when He came? Wouldn’t it be even better if, when we get to heaven, we see people who are there because we made the decision to invest in eternity?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Evaluate your relationship to money. Are you a good steward of God’s resources or are you worshipping them and what they can buy as your gods?
· Recognize the deceitfulness of riches.
· Commit to lay up treasures in heaven.
Father, thank you for all the material blessings I’ve received. Forgive me for all the times I’ve pursued riches more than You. Help me to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Help me to be a good steward of the riches I receive. Amen.
