40 Days of Prophecy - January 24, 2016 - Who Will You Serve?

Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:

Read Revelation 13:1-18

In this chapter, everyone was required to declare their allegiance – either to Satan by accepting the mark of the beast or to Christ resulting in death.

"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him."  Matthew 4:9-11

With what did Satan tempt Jesus (vs.8-9)?
How did Jesus respond to the temptation (vs.10)?

Jesus had to declare His allegiance. You and I need to decide whom we will worship and serve. Decide today.

Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Evaluate how much you have been lured to worship this world and the god of this world.
· What is keeping you from declaring unwavering allegiance to Jesus?
· Are you strong enough to say no to the Beast today?
· What needs to change so that you will follow Christ no matter what the cost?

Father, thank you for Jesus’ example of how to answer Satan’s temptations. Forgive me for all the times I worship things other than You. Help me to know Your Word so that I can answer Satan with the truth of Your Word. Amen.

Related verses to meditate on:

"Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."  Joshua 24:14-15

"The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."  2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
