40 Days of Prophecy - January 18, 2016 - Birth Pangs

"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy
written in this book."  Revelation 22:7

This week the reading will be longer in order to read through the entire book of Revelation during 40 Days.

Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:

Read Revelation 6:1-14

Today’s reading describes the opening of the first six seals. As the time gets closer to the opening of the seventh seal, things on earth will get worse and worse. Matthew calls it birth pangs.

"Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."  Matthew 24:6-8

What did Jesus warn us to watch out for?
What must happen before Jesus comes back?
How are we to respond as things get worse on earth?
Why shouldn’t we be alarmed? What hope are we given in this life?

Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Expect things to get worse and don’t be alarmed by it.
· Know that life apart from God will be terribly painful.
· Commit to learn God’s Word so you’ll know the truth and not be deceived.
· Allow the Spirit of Christ to guide you and strengthen you.

Father, I praise You for redeeming a lost world. Forgive me for taking my faith so casually. I need to get serious about my walk with You so that as life gets harder, I can persevere in Your strength and in Your power. Guide me with Your truth. Amen.

"Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”  Revelation 6:15-17

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."  Matthew 24:14

"And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit."  Mark 13:11
