40 Days of Prophecy - January 11, 2016 - A Vision of Heaven

"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book."  Revelation 22:7

Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Revelation Chapters 4 and 5 begin the section on the Great Tribulation describing the church in heaven before describing the suffering on earth in the following chapters.

Read Revelation 4:1-5

How does one describe the awesome glory of heaven or a vision of the Holy, Almighty God, Eternal God? There is no adequate way. Here, the brilliant stones symbolize the awesome glory of God. The crowns and thrones represent the reward of heaven.

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."  Colossians 3:1-2

Paul, in Colossians, exhorts us to set our minds on the things above, one of which is heaven. And rightly so! Too often, our focus is earthly and our vision of God much too small. Enjoy looking into your future today.

Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Take a few minutes to meditate on this vision of heaven and on God seated on His throne.
· How can thinking about heaven and God change how you live today?
· On what earthly things do you focus too much?
· Praise God for the hope of heaven.

Father, thank you for giving us a picture of heaven, even if it’s hard to grasp. Forgive me for focusing too much on my earthly endeavors. Help me to live with the hope of heaven today, to look forward to one day sitting at Your feet, freed from this life, worshipping You in all Your glory. Amen.

Related verses to meditate on:

"In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke."  Isaiah 6:1-4

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."  I Peter 1:3-5
