"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book."
January 1 – Living in Light of Eternity
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read Revelation 1:1-3
Revelation was written to change our lives and to help us to live in light of eternity. As we begin our 40 Days journey through the Book of Revelation, let’s start by giving God first place in our lives.
"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near." Revelation 1:3
In verse 3, what three things does it say will bring blessing to your life?
According to the same verse, why are we blessed if we read and obey God’s Word?
What do you think the ‘time is near’ refers to?
Revelation means unveiling. God loves us so much that He doesn’t want us to be surprised about what is going to happen in the future. He wants us to be prepared for what is to come. He invites us to take His Word to heart and to keep what is written in it so we will be prepared for the future – that’s what it means to live in light of eternity.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
· What distracts you from reading or listening to God’s Word each day?
· When will you make time to do the devotions each day or read the Word?
· How prepared are you for the events that will unfold in the future?
· Keeping God’s Word and taking it to heart is choosing to say "yes" to God. What is God asking you to do today?
I praise you Father for being loving, holy, good and all powerful. Forgive me for making other things more important than You. Help me to be faithful to spend the next 40 days reading, listening and keeping Your Word. Teach me to live in light of eternity. Amen.
