Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read Revelation 21:9-21
What is the angel inviting John to see (vs. 9)?
Who, in your understanding, is the bride of the Lamb?
The rest of this section describes the Eternal City of God.
How does John describe the glory and grandeur of Heaven (vs. 11, 18-21)?
What is written on the gates (vs. 12)?
What was written on the foundation (vs. 14)?
Hebrews 11:9-10 - By faith he (Abraham) went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
God has prepared an immense and glorious city for us.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Look forward to living in the city whose designer and builder is God
· Make Jesus the cornerstone (foundation) of your life.
· Continue to be built up in your faith. Spiritual growth classes start February 14th.
· Embrace your identity – fellow citizens and members of the household of God.
Father, Thank you for such a glorious picture of the Holy City. Help me to see myself as part of your building. Give me the discipline to continue to grow. Help me live by faith like Abraham – looking for the city whose designer and builder is God. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
Ephesians 2:19-22 - "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit."
1 Peter 2:4-8 - "As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do."
John 6:46-4 - "Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great."
