40 Days of Prayer - To Whom are you Praying? - Day 19

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Begin your time with praise to God.  Confess any sin that might be hindering your relationship with Him.  Ask God to give you spiritual understanding as you spend time in His Word.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.

"9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"  Matthew 7:9-11

What doubts do you have when you pray (God won’t, God can’t, God doesn’t care…)?

What is true about our God?  See “Related verses to meditate on” below.

How does an earthly parent respond to the requests of his/her children (11)?

Why can we expect good things from God when we ask according to His purposes and process (11)?

In spite of the fact that we are sinners, we desire to give good things to our children.  Why would we not think that God, who is truly good, would not do what is good for His children?

Apply God’s Word to your life.

Praise God that He is a good, loving, compassionate, and trustworthy Father.

Confess your wrong thoughts about God’s character and willingness to answer your prayers.

Ask God to help you to read your Bible more so that you can grow in the knowledge of Him.

Surrender to God, His will, and His ways.

Father, I praise You for being a good God who gives good gifts to His children.  Forgive me for all the times I have doubted Your love and care for me.  Help me to grow spiritually.  Teach me how to keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking.  I want Your will and Your ways.  Amen.

Related verses to meditate on.

"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him."  Psalm 103:8-13

"For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord."  Psalm 33:4-5

"See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are."  1 John 3:1
