Begin your time with God in prayer.
Begin your time with praise to God. Confess any sin that might be hindering your relationship with Him. Ask God to give you spiritual understanding as you spend time in His Word.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
"5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." James 1:5-8
What are we to do when we recognize that we lack wisdom (5)?
How are we to ask (6)?
How does James describe the one who doubts (6)?
What should the one who doubts expect (7-8)?
To ask in faith is to ask with confident trust in God, recognizing His sovereignty over our lives. When we ask in accordance with His will, we believe (step out in faith) that we have what we have asked of Him, and act accordingly. Prayer offered in faith is also prayer that surrenders to God’s will and God’s ways.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
· Ask God to examine your heart. When do you struggle with doubt in your prayer life?
· How will surrendering your prayers to the will of God help you face doubt?
· One of the things you may doubt is that God can do greater works through your life. Since we know this is God’s will for our lives, ask God to release His power through your life to accomplish His works. Be a person through whom God can be glorified.
· Watch for opportunities to do God’s work.
Father, I praise You that You are good, and loving, and righteous, and just. I confess there are times that I struggle with doubt. Teach me how to pray in faith, stepping out in Your will and trusting You to accomplish Your works through me. Amen.
