Begin your time with God in prayer.
Begin your time with praise to God. Confess any sin that might be hindering your relationship with Him. Ask God to give you spiritual understanding as you spend time in His Word.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
"14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." James 2:14-17
A prayer in faith is one that is accompanied by action. If we pray for a job, it must be combined with contacting employers and submitting applications. If we want God’s help conquering addictions, we need to go to Celebrate Recovery or somewhere we’ll get the tools and support that God will use to set us free. If we pray for spiritual growth, it must be accompanied by spending time in God’s Word and taking spiritual growth steps like 5 Step Follow-Up, or joining a Life Group or a class. None of these prayers will be answered if we just pray and sit.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
What prayers have you been praying that need to be followed by action?
What action steps do you need to take today?
When will you start?
Who will hold you accountable?
Father, Your plan is that our prayers are accompanied by action. I confess that at times my faith is dead. I know what I need to do today to get started knocking. Be with me as I step out in faith and take my first step. Amen.
