40 Days of Prayer - Greatness Requires Prayer - Day 5

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Begin your time with praise to God.  Confess any sin that might be hindering your relationship with Him.  Ask God to give you spiritual understanding as you spend time in His Word.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8

God’s great works require prayer.  Prayer was modeled by Jesus throughout His ministry.  Jesus prayed all the time but notably before He chose His disciples, after busy days, when He received bad news and prior to going to the cross.  He not only prayed for Himself; He prayed for those who would come to believe in the future.  That’s us!

Apply God’s Word to your life.

Ask God to teach you how to pray.

Evaluate your prayer life: how often do you pray?  What type of things do you pray for?

What one change will you make to your prayer life today?

Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be an example of how prayer releases Your power.  I confess that I don’t pray enough nor do I pray for the right things.  God, I want this to be a great year.  Help me learn to pray in such a way that it releases Your power and produces great works. Amen.

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”  Mark 1:35

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”  John 17:20-21

“You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” James 4:2-3
