Begin your time with God in prayer.
Begin your time with praise to God. Confess any sin that might be hindering your relationship with Him. Ask God to give you spiritual understanding as you spend time in His Word.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
“So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
As we aspire to bring glory to God, we must expect that it will require sacrifice. That sacrifice often comes from the battle between our will and God’s will. Paul prayed for God to remove the source of his suffering only to discover that when he was weak, the power of Christ rested on Him and in the end brought glory to God. Jesus, when He asked for the cup to pass from Him, understood that what He wanted wasn’t the will of the Father. But, as He was faithful to the will of the Father, He accomplished the work God had for Him and brought glory to His Father.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
What sacrifices has God been asking of you?
Ask God to use those sacrifices as an opportunity for the power of God to rest on you.
Surrender to God’s will, not your comfort.
Father, I confess that I often want you to remove the sacrifice and suffering from my life because I am thinking about me and my comfort and not what will bring You glory. Help me change how I think. I want to accept and expect the sacrifice that is required to bring You glory. I want Your power to rest on me. Teach me how to pray so that Your power is unleashed for Your purposes. Amen.
