"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
God has given us the command to “Rejoice in the Lord, always.” We have the choice and the power that we need to practice it, but do we have the faith to do it?
Philippians 4:11-13 - 11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
What did Paul learn in his journey with God (vs. 11)?
What secret did Paul learn which works in every circumstance (vs. 12-13)?
For years and years, we have let ungodly thoughts and influences fill our minds and guide our actions. The question for us to answer is, “Will we choose to rejoice in the Lord as a way of life by stepping out in faith and putting into practice what we’ve learned from God’s Word?”
When you are in tough circumstances, will you pursue the presence of God?
Psalm 16:11 - You will make known to me the path of life; n Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
When your plans have been frustrated, will you surrender your will to God and fulfill His purposes?
Philippians 3:13-14 - Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
- Draw near to God.
- Talk to God about what is troubling you.
- Capture and confess your impure thoughts.
- Choose to live for God’s purposes today.
Father, I praise You that I can draw near to You anytime and anywhere. Help me learn to walk in Your presence, not just draw near when I am struggling. I am stepping out in faith to live for You and Your purposes today. Amen.
