40 Days of Joy - Seek to Make Peace - Day 25
"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Pastor Jay says that when it comes to conflict, we carry a pail of water in one hand and gasoline in the other. We can either intensify conflict by pouring gasoline on it or we can use godly principles to throw water on the fire.
James 1:19-20 - Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Review the 10 ways we can put out the fires in our lives.
Cool off first
Purify your heart
Affirm & encourage
Be kind and respectful
Listen without interrupting
Consider their position
Seek a win-win
Propose a fair solution
Apply God’s Word to your life:
- Think about your last conflict. What would have changed if you followed these 10 steps?
- What is the best way for you to cool off and purify your heart before God?
- How could you have been a better listener?
- What would a win-win have looked like?
- Ask God to help you respond to conflict in a godly way.
Related verses to meditate on:
1 Peter 2:21b-23 - …since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.
