40 Days of Joy - Reprogramming for Joyful, Godly Thinking - Day 42

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice."  Philippians 4:4

Begin your time with God in prayer:

Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:

Years ago, I joined a team. The other three on the team had been together for a while and joked around by making fun of each other in a cutting way. Then one day, after about six months, a cutting remark popped out of my mouth. Instead of laughing, we all fell under conviction. They couldn’t see how degrading their humor had been until they heard it from someone they didn’t expect it from and I was horrified it came out of my mouth.

Philippians 3:17-19 - 17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. 18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

God is in the process of conforming us into the image of His Son, Jesus. The more we think like Jesus, the more we’ll be like Jesus. One of the methods He uses is renewing our minds. The process of purging our ungodly thinking can be painful, but the end result is lasting joy!

Apply God’s Word to your life:

  • Spend time in the Bible daily.
  • Discipline your mind to think joyful, godly thoughts.
  • Stop thinking about ungodly pursuits.
  • Surround yourself with godly friends.
  • Pray with thanksgiving instead of complaining.

Father, thank you for not leaving me in my sin and drawing me into a relationship with Your Son. Help me to renew my mind with Your Word each day and discipline it to dwell on joyful, godly thoughts. Help me to surrender to You as You conform me to the image of Your Son. Amen.
