"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
I was invited to a weekend retreat while I was a college student. I almost didn’t go because I had a Biochemistry mid-term at 8am on the following Monday. Fortunately, I did go because that weekend I gave my life to Christ. I remember coming home and feeling incredibly joyful in my new life in Christ. I had lived the Christian life for years. I had just lived it without Christ. Christ brought His joy to my life.
In Psalm 16:11, David tells us that joy, fullness of joy, is found in the presence of the Lord. Read through the following verses slowly. Take time to think about what each verse means and how it contributes to David’s joy in the presence of God.
Psalm 16:7-11 - I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
If you haven’t given your life to Christ, that’s the first step to true joy.
Sin separates us from the joy of the Lord. Confess any sin that is keeping you from the joy of the Lord.
Offer Psalm 16:7-11 as a prayer to God.
Father, I praise You for making known to me the path of life. Teach me how to live in Your presence each day. Forgive me for choosing my ways and not Your ways. Live in and through me today as I set You continually before me. Amen.

Psalm 95:1-3 - Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
Jude 24-25 - Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
