40 Days of Joy - Practice What You've Seen Lived - Day 45

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice."  Philippians 4:4

Begin your time with God in prayer:

Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:

Philippians 3:17 - Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.

According to Paul, how can we learn to live God’s way (vs. 17)?

1 Corinthians 11:1 - Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

Who was Paul’s example (vs. 1)?

1 Timothy 4:12 - Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.

Paul had often encouraged Timothy to follow his example, or imitate his actions. What was Paul asking Timothy to do now?

Apply God’s Word to your life:

  • When you read the Bible, look for examples of how to live life God’s way.
  • Surround yourself with godly people who don’t just know God’s Word, but actually obey it and live it out.
  • Practice applying God’s Word so that you will be an example to others of one who truly believes.

Father, thank you for the examples that You have given me both in the Bible and at church that can show me how to live Your way. Forgive me for making excuses rather than doing the hard work of repeatedly doing Your will. You have given me Your power and Your discipline. Help me practice what I see lived out in godly lives. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 1:6-8  - You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything

Hebrews 6:11-12 - And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises

1 Corinthians 4:16-17 - Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.
