"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
John 15:4, 9-11 - Abide in me (Jesus), and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
To abide means to dwell, to live. According to verse 4, in whom are we to abide?
According to verse 9, in what are we to abide?
How do we abide in God’s love (vs. 10)?
Why did Jesus tell us these things (vs. 11)?
Joy is not found externally. Joy comes through a relationship with God. The more we seek to abide in Christ and His love, the more we’ll experience His joy, even in the most difficult and trying times.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
Evaluate your last 24 hours. How much of it was spent abiding in Christ and His love?
What kept you from abiding with Christ and allowing Him to lead your life?
What can you do to make sure you have time each day to seek the Lord and His joy?
Father, thank you that joy is found in Your presence. Help me to make seeking You a priority each day. I want to abide in You and Your love so that I can have Your joy even when life is tough. Amen.
