"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Psalm 63:1-2 - O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
How does David describe his life away from the presence of God?
What did David do in his emptiness?
Psalm 84:1-2 - How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.
According to this verse, what does the psalmist long for?
Where is joy found?
Unlike David, we don’t need to go to the sanctuary or to the temple of the Lord to experience the presence of God, but regularly participating in worship service helps us to stay connected to the Lord, motivates us to grow, and reminds us to live continually in His presence. In addition, joy is experienced as we gather together for worship.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
David recognized that he felt spiritually empty. What is the spiritual condition of your heart today?
Joy is found in the presence of God. Make attending worship a priority this year.
Take time to talk with God today. Let Him speak to you through His Word and draw you into His presence.
Father, thank You that joy is found in Your presence. Help me switch my focus today from my problems and my feelings to You, Your greatness and Your presence in my life. Amen.
