"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Ephesians 4:11-14 - 11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
What has God called the leaders of the church to do (vs. 12)?
What are the saints (believers) to do (vs. 12)?
What does maturity look like in the body of Christ (vs. 13)?
What is the benefit of building believers to maturity (vs. 14)?
Apply God’s Word to your life:
What do you need to do so that you can keep on growing to maturity? Be specific (i.e. complete the Spiritual Growth Process, join a Life Group, …).
What can you do to be equipped to build others to maturity? Be specific (i.e. take the Discipleship Class, apprentice under someone in ministry …).
Watch the bulletin for opportunities to be equipped.
Father, thank you for using people to lead me into a relationship with You. Help me to press on to maturity. Forgive me for letting other things be more important than growing spiritually. Equip me to help others to grow to maturity. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
2 Timothy 2:2 - What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
Colossians 1:28 - Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
Hebrews 5:12-13 - For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
