40 Days of Compassion - Day 6 - Loving God Helps Us Love Others Better

Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.  Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love."  1 John 4:7-8

We need to learn to love God so that we can love others well.  God is love – pure love, unconditional love.  This love seeks to benefit the person being loved.  It is only as we come to know God and His unconditional love for us that we are able to truly love all people with God’s love.

Apply God’s Word to your life.

·  Tell God how much you need to know Him and His love so that you can love others better.

·  Continue to commit to the journey because you see how crucial it is for you to learn to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

·  Ask God to help you to follow His Word today.

·  Let God’s love flow through you today to a lost and hurting world.

Father, I confess that my love for others is based on how I want to love them, or how much love I feel they deserve, or what is convenient for my schedule.  It shows me how little I know of You and Your love.  Your love sacrifices.  Your love puts others first.  Your love doesn’t discriminate.  Your love is patient.  Help me get to know You and Your love so that I can love others better.

Related verses to meditate on:

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."  1 Corinthians 13:4-8

"…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:8
