40 Days of Compassion - Day 5 - Do It For Yourself

Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
"But, as it is written,“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”.  1 Cor. 2:9

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."  Galatians. 5:22-23

God has prepared unimaginably great things for us.  Faith is taking God at His Word.  Do you believe Him?  The challenge is that these blessings are experienced as we love Him and let His Spirit live through us.  As we do, we’ll see a shift from gratifying our desires (self-focus) to yielding to the leading of the Spirit (God-focus).  The important question today is – are you willing to love God?

Apply God’s Word to your life.

·  Ask God to search your heart.  What keeps you from loving God whole-heartedly?

·  Ask God to help you to grasp the benefits and blessings of loving Him.

·  Do it for yourself.

Father, give me the faith to believe that You have prepared unimaginably great things for those who love You.  I confess that I need the fruit of Spirit in my life.  I fall so short.  Help me to be faithful on this journey, to be disciplined to spend time with You, to have the faith to believe Your Word and to have the will to do things Your way.  Amen.

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."  Psalm 103:2-5
