Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Colossians 3: 9-11
When we put off the old self with its corrupt behaviors and let the Word of God make us like Christ, we love like Christ. Anger, wrath, malice, slander, and lying keep us from fulfilling Mark 12:30-31. You cannot wish harm on someone and love them at the same time.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
· With whom are you angry and need to forgive?
· To whom do you desire harm to come? Confess it as sin and ask God to replace your malice with His love?
· When do you tend to lie, slander or gossip? Ask God to enable you to say only that which builds others up.
Father, I confess that I have a long way to go to put off my old self. Please forgive me for all the ways that I sin in my heart and with my words. Help me to speak only words which build up others and bring You glory. Amen.
