40 Days of Compassion - Day 30 - Love Sees Self-Inflicted and Afflicted

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Read Mark 12:30-31 out loud.

"And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace!"  Luke 19: 41-42a

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."  John 3:16-17

How do you view broken people with messy lives, or people who have rejected Jesus?  Are they to be avoided?  Do you judge them for the choices they made?  Jesus saw people in light of eternity.  He agonized that they did not know One who could bring peace to their lives.  He didn’t come to condemn the world, but to save the world.

Apply God’s Word to your life.
· What people have you avoided and judged rather than wept over their spiritual state and earthly circumstances?
· Take a moment and try to picture how Jesus would have responded to them.
· Ask God to transform your heart so that you grieve for those who don’t know Jesus.

Father, thank you for sending Jesus to show us how to love.  I confess that instead of weeping over people whose lives are messed up, I have judged, condemned and avoided them.  Transform my heart and give me a love for everyone, especially those who are different and hurting.  Amen.
