40 Days of Compassion - Day 27 - Teach the Word

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.

"Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

God desires us to touch the wounds and teach the Word.  As Jesus was about to leave this earth, He left us with this mission – to make disciples.  A disciple is a learner, a follower.  As we touch people’s wounds by caring about them, we need to point them to Jesus through the truths in God’s Word.  Last week, I got a call about someone’s co-worker who was struggling to make a moral decision and willing to talk to someone from our church.  I connected her to a loving, godly woman who listened to her, led her to Christ, and helped her make the godly decision according to God’s Word.  That’s the power of touching the wounds and teaching the Word.

Apply God’s Word to your life.
· Most of us feel inadequate about “teaching the Word.”  That’s why we have a spiritual growth process – to equip you as a disciple of Jesus.  Classes start in a couple of weeks.  Be sure to sign-up this week.
· Remember that God placed His Spirit in you so that He would be glorified as we depend on Him to touch the wounds and teach the Word.  Ask the Spirit to enable you to love people like Jesus.
· A great way to teach people to obey God’s Word is to model it.  In what area do you need to be obedient today?

Father, I praise You and thank You that You left us with a plan to reach a lost and hurting world. I want to be someone who touches wounds and teaches the Word. Help me to be committed to growing spiritually as I seek to love others and touch their wounds. Use me to help others grow. Amen.
